The Worries Within Smart Cities
As a person who has lived in an urban area ever since I was a kid, I have witnessed how technology has changed and its potential for implementing advanced technology in cities in the future.
Imagine living in a city where transportation and traffic move smoothly. And public services meet our needs instantly. This city, equipped with advanced technologies, improves our quality of life. However, alongside this development, there's an increasing concern about privacy rights being violated. People may feel uneasy when someone is continuously monitoring their activities. Like me, our home is equipped with CCTV cameras, which makes me wary about what I'm doing because I feel like someone is watching and judging me. You can see that constant surveillance and data gathering can make people feel uncomfortable and uneasy, which questions the cost of building smart cities.
In conclusion, smart cities have the ability to create more sustainable and efficient urban. However, they also present issues with privacy that should be addressed by having transparency in data practices. Informing people about how their data is collected, used, and shared can decrease anxiety and worry of people regarding privacy. It is also to ensure that smart cities genuinely serve the best interests of all citizens, both now and in the future.
